Trump ruined my dreams

The first limerick I’ve received! I LOVE a good limerick. With a rhyme scheme of A, A, B, B, A, I find them to be the most whimsical and bouncy of all the standard poetry structures. They usually have a lighthearted tone with the last line acting as “punchline” of sorts.

This one however, kinda made me sad.

To be clear, he was forced out of his job due to his employer closing, obviously. I asked him a few follow up questions about the restaurant where he worked. C is surprisingly upbeat despite his situation. Apparently he’s jockeying for some private in-home chef gigs (which entirely violate the whole keep your germs to yourself mandate but whatev). He also said that life as a chef is not super stable anyway, so the dude seems fairly resilient in spite of it all.

It’s a shitty truth that a lot of people are out of work right now. Some people’s jobs are on hiatus, and some have lost theirs entirely. I empathize for all of the above. Let’s go ahead and give this an A. He popped my limerick cherry, and made me cautiously optimistic for all you gig workers out there. Godspeed.
